The Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification is aimed at experienced database professionals who have the skills to implement and manage complex Oracle database functions and the knowledge to keep the database running efficiently. Attaining your OCP credential is an excellent achievement that requires training and hands-on experience.

Acquiring an OCP credential is a real professional accomplishment that requires training and experience. Candidates must first earn the 10g Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) credential, and then pass the Oracle 1Z0-043 exam. This exam consists of a series of multiple choice questions. Scores are not marked negatively so you should attempt all questions. If you are unsuccessful you can re-sit the exam after 30 days, and a maximum of three times per year. Along with the written exam all new OCP candidates are required to complete one Oracle University hands-on course.

This course is available from Oracle University or one of its authorized partners. The hands-on course requirement is not required for those who are upgrading their existing OCP credential from a previous version. To upgrade from the 9i OCP credential you just have to pass the Oracle 1Z0-043 exam.

OCP professional status is an important step for any Oracle DBA who wishes to develop their career. It is proof to employers and associates that you are a highly skilled and dedicated database professional with current up to date skills. Many professionals who earn the OCP credential go on to obtain advanced database management skills through training and job experience. Oracle University and their authorized partners offer a series of special accreditations available to OCPs. In 2003 Oracle released the Oracle Certified Master certification track. This requires the OCP credential as a prerequisite. Candidates are required to complete advanced coursework and complete a two day hands on practical exam. This is a very high level exam and is considered guru level, fewer than 200 OCP’s have attained this level of certification.
